Art heals!
Psychological disorders can be seen as the plague of today. The masses are struggling with unhappiness and psychological problems all over the world both in developed Western countries and in the third world countries. However, there are developments that give hope. It is possible to treat almost all psychological diseases both pharmacologically (with medication) and therapies.
Art therapy is a modern form of treatment for patients with psychological problems. Art therapy directly benefits from the healing power of art. As Julia Cameron, the author of the book “The Path of the Artist” says, “Art; opens our chests and abandones the burdens within us. Art ventilates cellars and attics. It heals us ”.
Art therapy is, in general a psychological treatment that uses the clients' imagination as a tool. It has been developed to reduce the daily stress of individuals and the effects of traumatic events. In this treatment method, patients express their inner world and subconscious by means of artistic activities such as painting and sculpture.
On the other hand, actively engaging in some kind of art gives us an opportunity to listen to our own inner voice while keeping us away from the daily stress of life. Art also provides the pleasure of creating an aesthetic product and the pride of being appreciated and it increases our confidence in ourselves.
Art and therapy are similar in that they both offer the opportunity to express what we have inside. In this sense, the export of the troubles of us by artistic activities will be good for our souls. It will heal us. It will add vitality to our mechanized minds.
